ABATO Motoren began offering diesel engines in 2006. Initially, the company supplied marine engines, later expanding to include emergency generators. The focus was originally on engines for pleasure craft, classic vessels from the brown fleet, and tractors. From 2007 onwards, emergency generators were added to the product range on Weichai’s recommendation. For the first two years, these were supplied almost exclusively to the agricultural market. Starting in 2009, the company began targeting the utilities and industrial sectors with generator sets. From 2010, ABATO Motoren also became active in Germany.

ABATO Motoren manufactures and sells generator sets and related equipment, while also supplying standalone diesel engines for generators, pumps and tractors, as well as individual generators and generator control systems. We can meet your needs for all types of industrial engines, emergency power generators or marine engines from 20 to 9000 kW. Our breakdown service team is available 24/7, 365 days a year. ABATO service technicians hold VCA-VOL certification and are Stipel-certified Competent Persons for low voltage work in accordance with NEN-3140. Additionally, they have completed multi-day product training courses covering engine and diesel technology, control systems and electrical switchgear. Our comprehensive parts warehouse ensures that work can be carried out quickly and efficiently on-site.

ABATO Motoren is an official dealer for Moteurs Baudouin and Weichai brands. In addition to generator sets and engines based on Weichai and Moteurs Baudouin engines, ABATO Motoren also supplies engines and generator sets from other manufacturers. ABATO can perform maintenance on all engine brands and all types of control systems. We’re also ready to assist you with product development and custom solutions.

The French company Moteurs Baudouin has been designing and manufacturing diesel engines for both marine applications and power generation for over 100 years. Baudouin engines are produced using modern and efficient methods while meeting global environmental regulations.

Weichai Acquisition

In January 2009, Baudouin was acquired by Weichai Power. The two companies shared many complementary strengths, including a rich history and wealth of experience in manufacturing both marine engines and power generation engines. Baudouin represented an attractive opportunity for Weichai for several reasons. With its French heritage and years of expertise, Baudouin would open doors to the lucrative Western market. Additionally, Baudouin offered the opportunity to gain knowledge in the technical design and manufacturing of European products. Both would prove invaluable to Weichai. With the deal signed by Weichai’s Chairman, Mr. Tan Xuguang, the new Baudouin-Weichai partnership began.

Following the acquisition, Weichai launched a program of steady investments. In the first year under new ownership, a research and development center was opened at Baudouin headquarters in Cassis. This is where the next generation of engines began to take shape. Weichai has also implemented other positive changes, such as scaling up production and strengthening the workforce in France. The dealer network used to distribute Baudouin engines was also restructured, creating greater efficiency in the sales of finished products, spare parts, and after-sales services.
